So have you noticed that in Alberta for the first time in history “they” have been issuing “Excessive Heat Advisories” for summertime temperatures that have been normal for as long as, well I can remember anyway. I have been living in Calgary for 38 years now since January 1, 1979 when my train rolled into the Calgary station located beneath what was then the Husky Tower.

 

I remember three very distinct things about Calgary in 1979. The first is that it was a very cold and snowy winter. Gas was 14.7 cents per litre, but more pertinent to this blog is that the summer of 1979 was just as hot and dry as this one is in 2017. No one was screaming “Global warming!” or “Climate change!” Instead everyone took it in stride and basked in the beautiful weather because as we all know, “In Calgary, if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes…”.  So for as long as anyone can remember, wild daily and seasonal swings in the weather were perfectly normal and have been since the weather has been recorded in Canada since some time in the late 1800’s. And that’s a big part of the problem. The Millennials, the ones crying the most and the loudest about climate change are the ones that weren’t around to see these same weather patterns almost forty years ago. They can be molded to the will of the new regime.

 

On May 26^th of 1986 I remember a major snow storm that ground Calgary to a halt. Three feet plus of snow and even bigger drifts and visibility of zero. I know because back then I was a four wheeler working with Calgary Disaster Services and we convoyed up the Number Two to Airdrie rescuing stranded motorists. Then next day the temperatures hit the mid twenties and everything melted in one day. Again there was no screaming “Global warming!” or “Climate change!” Instead everyone commented on how in Calgary it is not uncommon to get snow any month of the year. Nothing noteworthy here.

 

So why all of a sudden are we issuing “Excessive Heat Advisories”? What has changed? Interestingly, two things have changed since 1979. The Liberals are in power in Alberta and Canada and the theories of man-made global warming and climate change are being promoted concurrently. These two things have never converged before.

 

I spent my time in university studying in the field of geology to wit earning an HBSc in the field. I minored in Biology. I remember several things from my time immersed in academia (and beer) while there. Two things are distinctly common to both fields. Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny. What happens on the small short term scale also happens on the large long term scale. Repetitiously so. Life and Earth are dynamic and ever changing. But more importantly the processes involved also cyclical. What you see seasonally (micro) is going to happen over hundreds or thousands of years (macro).

 

I spent a lot of time learning about what the layers of sedimentary rocks preserved in the geologic record told us about climate on both scales. The details are remarkably preserved and quite literally written in stone. To put it in a nut shell, what the global alarmists either fail to realize or do but fail to disclose to protect their agenda is that Earth has warmed and cooled countless times, polar caps coming and going, ocean levels rising and falling and many, many major extinction events related to all of it. And through all of it, where was the production of “Greenhouse Gasses” that caused it all coming from? Who was producing and burning the fossil fuels to cause it? Nobody. Like today’s episode of global warming, which is real, don’t get me wrong, it is natural, cyclical, evolutionary and normal in every way imaginable. So is the current and drastic reversal of the magnetic poles and drastic increase in the solar radiation bombarding the planet, both in part largely responsible for atmospheric disturbances which the global alarmists are blaming on man. They also fail to believe or refuse to acknowledge that our Sun, the giver of life, is also evolving, cyclical in nature and will eventually become a red giant engulfing and annihilating not only Earth, but the entire solar system. If you start to research studies done on the cause of global warming, they all focus on man-caused issues and completely ignore natural causes or the interaction between the two.

 

So coming back to our “Excessive Heat Advisories”, why? Because, simply, “they”, our liberal governments, in their exhaustive efforts to promote their for profit only climate change agenda are doing their dammed best to make us afraid of our environment. Make us afraid to step outside our doors. Afraid of the sun. Make us believe in man made climate change. It is a massive albeit well coreographed campaign of fear. I was listening to Global News, purveyor of the Liberal word the other morning talking about how most people were going to stay indoors with air conditioning and lots of water. Runners were going to not run. I went out in 32 degrees and cycled on my road bike 100 kms and did not wear sun screen. I basked in that heat, that sun, did not die and did not burn. I have always cycled or inline skated in those temperatures with absolutely no ill effect. And I did it again two days later. In between rides I spent countless hours in the heat digging and hauling heavy paving blocks, sod and dirt, alive here now to tell you about it. There is nothing to fear in our environment. We adapt. We evolve along with it and we embrace it. That is how we survive it. Not by running away, hiding and believing that our governments can change what is impossible to change to save us.   Oh they claim they can by raising our taxes, reducing our benefits and giving themselves massive raises, laughing at us the whole time.

 

Time to hide. They just issued another Excessive Heat Advisory for tomorrow. Gonna be 25 degrees…
