Racism is Not Just Black and White

Since his first day in office, Justin Trudeau has been on a non-stop racist tirade against white Canadians of European decent. We have never done anything wrong other than to be white, born into this world and country by no choice of our own. I have never felt “privileged” over any one else and growing up was the target of bullying and oppression for most of my school years. I suffered horribly for it, becoming an introvert, developing nervous ticks and being labelled a slow learner. I was in no way privileged over anyone else. My parents used to hire the high school aged son of a black family down the road who had immigrated to Canada to babysit my sister and I.  We were always taught to respect others of any and all racial backgrounds, gender orientations or physical/mental disabilities. And this was in the ’60’s.

And now to have the audacity to tell me that I have an underlying black bias? To tell me that I do not appreciate Canada as much as non-white immigrants? To tell me that my immigrant grandparents were the worst thing to ever happen to Canada? To tell the world that we as today’s Canadians are guilty of the genocide that the French and English settlers instigated at at the order of the Church?  A church that went even further until recently taking indigenous children away from their families and torturing them through forced conversion therapy in the prisons known as residential schools?  (A thing that I hate about our history and one of the reasons I consider all religions and their related gods to be false).  Even though I, my grandparents and parents had nothing to do with these things, other than by default being European and white?  Most white European immigrants didn’t even realize these schools existed.  All of this coming from a racist hypocrite who himself demeaned blacks with his blackface epics and as a kid rode black children horsey back on a family trip to Africa.  These statements made by Trudeau are very clearly designed to incite the racism he himself condones.

So please DO NOT play the “white privilege” card with me. Yes, I have always felt very lucky and to be Canadian, but my grandparents, parents and I have had to work very hard to survive within a crazy society based purely on governmental greed. When my grandparents came to Canada, they were not given so much as a dime and were in fact themselves often victims of racial prejudice.  They settled in the Kirkland Lake area during the gold boom.  My dad told me how they lived in tar paper shacks in the woods surrounding the town.  It was called Shanty Town.  They were,  for all intensive purposes, considered to be White Trash.  My wife’s parents immigrated from Austria and settled in Quebec. But they were forced to leave because they decided to speak English instead of French and Quebecers were highly racist against the English-speaking. This is as true today as it was then, to the point that many French-speaking Canadians have come west to escape the still rampant racism of their own province.

The issue of racism and prejudice runs very deep and everyone suffers from it. From time to time some may say that I have been racist in my posts and comments over the years. But it has never been about colour or religion. It has, however been a reaction to attitude of other races or religions towards my beliefs and the feeling that I should somehow give up my ideals and customs rather than keep mine and respect theirs.  That’s what I was alway taught defined acceptance and inclusion. But instead it is the former that is being heavily promoted by the current Liberal government which in doing so is practicing blatant racism. Even to the point of favouring Quebec over the rest of the country on many levels. Sad but true.

Racism is not just black and white. It comes in many colours…
